Highlights of Faculty Task Force Recommendations : Sabbaticals
- Make sabbaticals virtually automatic based on accrued service.
- Establish a true sabbatical system along the lines of the U of California model.
- Guarantee each faculty member a full-pay, year-long sabbatical after every seven years of accrued service (except when too many faculty in one department become eligible at the same time).
- Guarantee that if a sabbatical must be “deferred,” the faculty member receives the second sabbatical “earlier.”
- Guarantee other sabbatical options paid on a prorated basis, based on years of accrued service.
- Eliminate uncertainty in the application and awards process.
- Reduce bureaucracy in the application and awards process.
- Establish parallel, integrated, predictable procedures for the separate kinds of leaves.
- Mandate payment to departments to compensate faculty on sabbatical.
