Highlights of Faculty Task Force Recommendations : Conflict of Interest
- Define clearly what constitutes a conflict of interest more in line with the practices of top-tier universities and describe specific situations that may give rise to conflicts of interest.
- Recognize that outside employment, consulting and similar activities may advance the professional expertise and reputation of the faculty.
- Support the faculty in their efforts to engage in outside activities as long as the activities do not conflict with assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Give administrators oversight to stop true conflicts of interest without unduly hindering those faculty whose assignments require them to raise outside funding.
- Provide efficient and effective means for faculty and administrators to resolve true conflicts of interest if they arise.
