Agreement on Salary Increases (August 4, 2010)

Dear Colleague,

I write to report that after prolonged and difficult negotiations the Collective Bargaining Agreement is now complete and includes a salary agreement for 2010/11. While still committed to making salary increases more fair, systematic and transparent than has been the case in the past, the union has decided to agree to a 4% merit raise to be distributed according to the criteria developed under Article 9. We did so because we believe that given the current budgetary uncertainties and the fact that faculty have gone without a raise for too long, it was essential to make sure that this well-deserved increase is not delayed further. For its part, the administration has agreed to drop its demand to re-negotiate a number of the most important articles you ratified last spring. It also agreed to our long-standing demand to bring faculty salaries at P.K.Yonge in line with those in the Alachua County school system.

As is usual in bargaining, neither side got everything it wanted. However, we believe that this outcome is one that best promotes the overall interest of the faculty in the circumstances.
