Urgent Message from John Biro (November 21, 2011)
This year's legislative session begins on January 10th. The anti-union bills from the last session will be back, along with so-called higher education reform Texas style. We are trying to build opposition in the legislature to these threats, but we cannot do it without your help. As I am sure you are aware, union dues cannot be spent on supporting candidates for office. But we need to make sure that we have friends who will be with us in fighting against:
Texas style "reform"
Higher pension contributions
Lower healthcare benefits at a higher cost
A ban on payroll dues deductions for unions
Automatic decertification for any union with less than fifty percent membership
This is why UFF has its own political action committee. It is essential that our members contribute to UFF-PAC, so that UFF has ammunition to fight for you in Tallahassee.
We need to raise $40,000 in the next two weeks to help elect legislators who will stand for higher education and with higher- education employees in Florida. We need to demonstrate our support for them with UFF-PAC contributions.
Please send a check -- and ask your colleagues to do so as well -- made out to "UFF-PAC" to:
UFF, 306 East Park Avenue, Tallahassee, FL 32301
